Now Our Redemption Draws Near

Merry Christmas From Our Family To Yours

We have watched; we have waited in hope....for peace....in joy....with love.
Now our redemption draws near!

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness — on them light has shined. You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder. For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For all the boots of the tramping warriors and all the garments rolled in blood shall be burned as fuel for the fire. For a child has been born for us, a son is given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:2-7

Glory to God in the highest! Aleluia! Amen!
Our 2016 Year End Review is Ready
Take a few minutes with your family to review our annual year in review (just click on the photo above to bring you to the webpage).  Ashley and I are incredibly blessed to be empowered by you to play a critical role in this ministry .
You will want to take a look inside to see stories like:
     - An indigenous missionary leading rebels to Christ in the Congo
     - Indigenous missionaries planting churches in Indonesia
     - Latin Americans mobilized to the Middle East
     - A "welcomed" Iranian student in Arkansas now an active proclaimer of our Risen Lord
Help Us Finish 2016 and Start 2017 Strong!
God has truly blessed us this year in all areas of our lives, family and ministry. Much of that is do to your love, encouragement and prayer.

As you consider your 2017 charitable giving please prayerfully consider the Magruder Family and our ministry amongst your opportunities to partner.  You might also have room remaining in your 2016 giving for a year end contribution.  We are actively seeking new monthly partners; those who can commit to a monthly financial investment over a sustained time period. This allows us to budget and plan properly as we serve from the mission field.  Either of these giving opportunities would help us finish 2016 and set us up towards achieving our goals for 2017.

All contributions are tax deductible and we offer a number of simple ways to manage the process.  Credit or Debit Card, Bank Draft, Check and Asset-Based Giving are all available options.  Simply click the link below to access our family's giving portal.

Ashley and I are grateful for you in whatever capacity you can continue to walk in ministry with us.

Thankful for You

We are thankful for your prayers

Thank you for your ongoing encouragement of and prayer for the Magruder Family and our work.  As we reflect on our goals for 2016 we KNOW that we could not have done it without your investment of time and energy in us.  This is the time of year we are planning our 2017 activities, setting our goals and counting the costs to build our budget.
As you reflect on your year and consider the year ahead, we would like to invite you to prayerfully consider joining our family's monthly support team and/or an end of the year gift towards our ministry as God leads and provides as a way to kick off our next season's funding needs.  Will you join with us in advancing the Gospel by transforming the traditional mission field into a mission force?
     - The easiest way to go about that is selecting this link: CMM/MAGRUDER
     - For those looking for Asset-Based Giving the CMM has instructions on that
       oportunity for you HERE
"Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.  Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now......" Ph.1
Our family spent Thanksgiving at the foot of Mount Kenya with the rest of the CMM Global Services Team.  It was a tremendous oportunity to turn off the computer and phone and just spend time with folks we love and serve with.  A real highlight of the weekend for us was a visit to the Mt. Kenya Wildlife Conservancy and Animal Orphanage.  We rode horses in the conservancy and even got to play with young cheetah which was a bucket list item for Ashley.  It was absolutely thrilling to say the least and a wonderful chance to experience some of God's amazing creatures up close and personal.

With Open Eyes - Journey Church International

What a pleasure it was to host, on behalf of With Open Eyes, great friends from Journey Church International - Lee's Summit, MO.  This team came prepared to serve in so many ways and left some real traces of Christ's Love in Kitui central Kenya through children's outreach, women's ministry, art and joining in three different church improvement projects.  JCI has a deeply professed core value to love, and make a difference in, the world.
We were additionally blessed by our special friend, Harry, coming a few days early just to care for and "do life" with the Magruders.  He even participated in my CMM annual performance review.  Now that is going above and beyond the call of duty to invest in our lives!

"60 Team Dream"ing.......

I'm in the United Arab Emirates this week with my CMM Global Service Team brothers reviewing our current strategic plan, how we measure, capture and record the effectiveness of our ministry and dream casting future team locations and recruiting. I can't think of a better place than the heart of Arabia to ask for God's wisdom, guidance and provision. We are just starting to consider the how, when, who and how much it will take to place a CMM team in each of our top 60 most strategic global locations to create the greatest ultimate impact amongst the unreached.  The scope is overwhelming when thought of in human terms and we will be processing this over the next months.
Thankfully our Lord casts a beautiful vision to encourage us in Revelation 7:9&10
"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'"
Prayer & Praise

Please be in prayer with us for:
  • Petr and his two coworkers in a Sudanese prison for exactly one year this week.
  • Our dear friends the Preston Family.  David is recovering from a stroke.  Strength for the famiuly, Healing for David and Skills for the care givers.
  • Our dreaming and planning sessions this week.
  • Our 2017 forecasting and provision through continued building of our family's support team.
  • Magruder children finishing the semester strong - this is the first time Ella Jade and Duncan will experience the semester end high school level final exam schedule.
  • Continued healing in my shoulder.  It is starting to feel like forever since I was able to be really active.
Give thanks with us for:
  • An amazing 2016 for our family, individually, our ministry and our team.
  • Great shoulder rehab advice from Jason Greene at Peak Performance in Baton Rouge.
  • Ashley's growing friendships with ladies from varied cultures and faiths.
  • The Advent Season and celebration of our Savior's earthly birth.

Frontier Mobilization In Action

We are celebrating with our team in East Asia (location and names protected) as they push forward into the frontier.  When our family joined the Center for Mission Mobilization and spent the summer of 2015 raising support and sharing our vision one of the illustrations we used was what we call "The Gap".  We described the reality that because of the success of the last 200 years of mission 85% of Christianity now exists outside of the West but that we all still think of the Great Commission being fulfilled by western missionaries.  The CMM believes that the Global Church is uniquely positioned and qualified to reach people groups where traditional missionaries are not going or can no longer go and our ministry exists to mobilize this Global Church towards the unreached.  Above you see Bri who serves on our East Asia team.  She discipled and mobilized "Sarah" who joined the team entirely funded from asian believers - you celebrated this with us a couple of months ago.  Well Sarah is living out her calling in sharing the Gospel and love of Christ for the first time with "Kassar" who belongs to an unreached Mongolian people group.  Kassar is so excited about his new relationship with God that on his school break he returned home to share the Gospel with his family and friends.  There are now people in his people group hearing about God for the first time because of the mission of an East Asian believer who was mobilized to the unreached.  This is an example of the potential our brothers and sisters from Africa, Asia and Latin America have in bringing the Gospel to the unreached.
We held a "town hall" meeting with our East Asia team last week to catch up and celebrate.  Distance and time zones are a bear but technology is helping shrink the divides.  I'm learning more about the security needs of communicating in unfriendly countries and trusting God in his protection in closing listening ears as we sort out our best policies and procedures.

CLIMB Conference

I had the pleasure of a whirlwind two week trip through Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas this last month.  The objectives were recruiting of new missionaries, organizational and personal support raising attending the CLIMB Conference and presenting to my first CMM board meeting.  It was an great time of catching up with folks I have not seen in many years.  The board meeting was outstanding and our recruiting and funding efforts will show fruit.  Support Raising Solutions, one of CMMs ministry arms, held the first ever CLIMB - a gathering of more than 170 leaders of 80 ministries representing nearly 80,000 field workers from organizations such as Campus Crusade, Navigators, Every Nations, Catholic Christian Outreach and others.  We explored how best to lead our ministries and create structure and policies that lead to success for our workers. I was humbled to have a seat at the table and to see such open handed sharing amongst these giants of the Great Commission.

Family News

Some of you know I had the unique oportunity to experience shattering my clavicle about six weeks ago.  In my quest to ignore my ever increasing age I picked up the great sport of rugby. The Crash, our missionary team (a crash is what you call a heard of rhino), was invited to play in the Nairobi Impala Tournament with 6 other teams.  We had 4 Kenyan teams, a French team and a British Military team....let me tell you that UK team was stacked with Samoan guys that still give me nightmares.  This was one of the greatest days of my over 40 life until the last two minutes of our last match at about 10:30pm.  I came up short on a tackle I should not have risked and paid the price.  I've got six inches of steel, eight screws, thirty-two stitches and hundreds of pills to show for it.  :) Thanks for your ongoing prayers in my healing.  I am back behind the wheel now but my sweet Lillian had to help me out for a while here....driving age is 18 but as she is 5'11" now I don't think the police question it.  I'm well on the road to recovery and appreciating the lessons learned of not taking it all for granted.
Just a couple more shots I like with Ashley doing life with friends here in Nairobi.  She has been spending a lot of time lately getting a much deeper knowledge of Asian and African cooking styles, ingredients and culture.  She is really loving her time with these ladies.
Lillian spent a weekend camping and celebrating a friend's birthday a week ago.  I love this foto of these girls exploring God's great creation.  Note the rainbow in the waterfall.  "I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth." Gen 9:13
Prayer & Praise

Please continue to celebrate with us the great work going on in the field.  Being able to find a good surgeon here to fix me up.  For our wonderful local community that we can do life with.
  • Please continue to pray for our friend Petr and his pastors who are approaching one year of imprisonment in Sudan. VOM has decided to go public with the plight and you can see that here.
  • Pray for our very dear friends the Prestons.  David suffered a stroke and they are trusting God in recovery.  He is getting stronger every day.
  • Pray for us as we love, guide and encourage three teenagers.
  • Pray for a successful visit from With Open Eyes and Journey Church as they serve in central Kenya.
God bless you all!
